Brian Sato is a Hawaii-based photographer who strives to convey the essence of his subject—be it a person or an object—through his images. His preferred medium of expression continues to be the sublime black & white print.

Combining technical expertise garnered from fifteen years of experience as a professional printer, with an affinity for simple beauty, he marries technique with aesthetic judgment to create images that are both precise and emotive.

Sato’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions—including the Artists of Hawaii at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, CROSSING: France/Hawaii at the Mona Bismark Museum in Paris France, the Tokyo Photographic Culture Center in Tokyo, Japan, and GOKURŌSAMA Contemporary Photographs of the Nisei in Hawaii at the Lyman Museum, Hilo, HI, the Kauai Museum and the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles, CA.

His photographs are part of private as well as public collections including the Hawai‘i State Foundation on the Culture and the Arts and the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
